The Junior A footballers were beaten by Kilmacabea on Sunday in the first round of the championship. A repeat of the 2017 West Cork final, Kilbrittain though were short 9 footballers who played in some championship game last year and were up against a strong Kilmacabea side who were well drilled in what they were doing. Kilbrittain were down 1-8 to 0-3 at halftime, but it could have been a lot worse. Seamus O'Brien in a repeat of the west cork final, saved an early penalty, Kilmacabea hit the crossbar and the butt of the upright all before a second penalty which they converted, close to halftime. It didn't get much better for Kilbrittain in the second half as the strong wind calmed, even though Kilmacabea only scored 5 points in the second half. Kilbrittain finished with 14 players as Josh O'Donovan was sent off on a straight red which seemed harsh. Final score Kimacabea 1-13 Kilbrittain 0-6.
