KilbrittaiN SYNC in association with Kevin O’Leary MAZDA took place on Friday and Saturday 22nd and 23rd November 2019 in Bandon GAA pavilion. Held over two nights, the event was a roaring success. Patrons were treated to two nights full of great performances, comedy, drama and a little controversy! The first night set the tone for the weekend with all twelve acts taking to the stage, many for the first time ever. And what a show they produced. From start to finish, the standard was extremely high with some stand out moments including the opening group act ‘The Greatest Showman’ to the Soccer club’s version of Miley Cyrus’s ‘Wrecking Ball’, The u21’s ‘Full Monty’, The Under-age ‘Three Tenors’ and The Blow In’s ‘Sister Act’.
Fridays Judges, Niamh Allen, Shane Wafer and Josephine O’Leary were generous with their comments and scores for each act with ‘The Three Tenors’ and the Camoige Under-age, ‘Queen’ the only acts to receive 10 out of 10 from all three Judges. The final result included the public ‘vote’ and the results on the night were Kilbrittain Rovers ‘Wrecking Ball’ third, Book Mad’s ‘Madonna’ second and the popular winners ‘Queen’ from the camogie Under-age represented by Bernard Madden, Ian Kelleher, Diarmuid O’Donovan and Oliver O’Brien. Their chosen good cause for the €1000 prize was Kilbrittain Under-age Camoige and Motor Neuron Disease Association. The night had it’s own ‘Oscar ‘moment when the result was called out, as the Under-age GAA ‘Three tenors’ having heard “Underage….” assumed they had won the competition. The night finished with an encore performance of Queen hits followed by a full group performance of Mama Mia.

Saturday night was as good if not better than the night before as all acts were more relaxed and all upped their performance from the previous night. ‘Queen’ were excluded from the vote having won the previous night which meant the competition was fierce between the remaining acts. Judges on the night were Helen Cashman, Owen Sexton and special guest Jennifer Barry from Young Offenders fame. Again each act delivered much to the delight of the larger crowd. The star moment of the night was the standing ovation given to Kilbrittain Rovers following their performance of ‘Wrecking Ball’ which brought the house down just before the interval. Indeed the final result reflected their performance as Kilbrittain Rovers were the popular winners on the night and finished the show with a passion filled performance once again. Cian O’Leary commanded the stage and was ably assisted by Ger (Godfrey) O’Regan, Jerry Coughlan, Gary Hayes and Anto Casey. Their chosen cause was Kilbrittain Rovers and Kilbrittain Red Cross. Second on Saturday night were the GAA Intermediate Hurlers who performed a selection of songs from ‘Grease’ and third were the GAA under-age following another rousing rendition of ‘Nessun Dorma’ from Lawrence Sexton, Niall Crowley and Micheal Harrington.
The crowd loved every minute of both shows and credit is due to the choreographer Veronica O’Shea with her team from Razzle Dazzle dance group for taking the group from complete amateurs a few months ago, to performing to a very high standard over the two nights. Huge credit also to the organising committee, especially Celina Crowley, Catherine Harrington, Michelle O’Callaghan, Denis Ryan, Barry Madden, Ed Enright, Denise Sheehy, Sarah Hurley and Oliver O’Brien, for weeks of work behind the scenes. Thanks also to Dinny Ahern and Bandon GAA for the use of their facilities, Kevin O’Leary MAZDA for their generous sponsorship and a special mention to Des Mahon who provided the very professional lighting, sound, and special effects which really made this event ‘The Greatest Show’!
