On Saturday evening the Minor A hurlers met reigning champions Ahan Gaels in the rebel Og west final played in a very windy Newcestown. Kilbrittain played with the wind in the first half an made every use of it leading at half time 1-11 to 0-4. Bertie Butler ( who would finish with 1-9) buried a penalty awarded shortly before half time to put daylight between the sides. Ahan tried hard during the second half but the Kilbrittain defence were outstanding under a lot of pressure. When Kilbrittain did break up the field into the wind, they made it all count with Bertie Butler unerring from four second half frees to keep the distance between the sides. Second half substitute Darragh Moore put the icing on the cake with a great personal score with time almost up to help Kilbrittain win a deserved victory 1-16 to 0-10. Kilbrittain Underage Cul Camp had four great days filled with quality training and lots of fun! 120 boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 from the parish took part.
The camp was a great success and this would not have been possible without the help and enthusiasm of the many adults and teenagers who gave up their time to help us, and for this we are very grateful.
A special note of thanks to John Considine for sourcing our main trainers and for all his hard work behind the scenes.
Thanks to Alan Cadogan and Colm Crowley for coming to see us and spending time with the children.

Above The U16 hurlers, West Cork Finalists.

The U16 hurlers played Kilbree in the west cork final in Clonakilty on Wednesday last (27th July). A hugely entertaining game saw both side play good hurling showing good skill and plenty of effort and enthusiasm. Kilbrittain never fully recovered from a 'soft' goal early in the first half. Despite this however, Kilbrittain were only three points down at halftime 1-9 to 0-9. Mark Hickey scored five points from frees during the first half with Aaron Holland (2) Cj O'Connell and Padraig Galvin one each the other scorers. Mark Hickey was unerring from frees again in the second half scoring four points leaving the score 1-12 to 0-13 with ten minutes left. Goalkeeper Eoin Galvin recovered well from the earlier mistake to play well for the remainder of the game with some good saves. The last few minutes were heart stopping as Kilbrittain looked for the equalizer as Kilbree went three points up. The equalizing goal came from substitute Seamus O'Sullivan with a superb ground strike from the edge of the square. In the second minute of injury time Kilbree scored a point to re-take the lead and a Sean Sexton effort moments later following a strong solo run up the middle was cleared up-field where Kilbree won a free and scored to go two points ahead and win the game 1-15 to 1-13. Heartbreak for the Kilbrittain boys, but they can be proud of their part played in a great final. Team Eoin Galvin, Jack O'Donovan, Gavin Hodge, Eoin O'Donovan, Darragh Considine, Padraig Galvin, Calum O'Donnell, Sean Sexton, Donagh Galvin, Mark Hickey 0-9 frees, Gavin Kenny, Kieran Murphy, Aaron Fehilly, Aaron Holland 0-2, C J O'Connell 0-1. The U14 hurlers were defeated by a stronger Bandon team in the west cork final on Sunday evening in sun kissed Ballinascarthy. While the result was disappointing, there were some fine individual performances with Mikolaj Kalitka having a fine game in goal, Fionn Ustianowski outstanding at corner back and Gavin Kenny worked hard at midfield. Donagh Galvin, Sean Sexton, Conor Hogan and Seamus O'Sullivan were others to catch the eye. An early goal in the second minute from Bandon's Daithi Collis caught the Kilbrittain defence napping and Bandon dominated the opening ten minutes registering 1-3, the points from Fionn Harrington, Charlie Long, (a free) and Cathal Lynch (free), before Sean Sexton pointed for Kilbrittain from a free. Kilbrittain came back into the game but their shooting let them down while registering two more points from Eoin O'Neill and Gavin Kenny. Bandon kept their distance with points from Jake Lillis and Richard Murphy, and a second from Collis just before the break to leave the halftime score Kilbrittain 0-3 Bandon 1-6. The Kilbrittain goalkeeper had to be alert on the restart and made a fine save seconds into the half from Bandons Brendan Twohig as  Bandon continued to put the Kilbrittain backline under pressure. Kilbrittain can thank the aforementioned Kalitka and Fionn Ustianowski for keeping the score respectable with fine individual displays especially during the second half. Bandon were the stronger team however and picked off some fine points especially from Charlie Long and Fionn Harrington to run out winners 1-14 to 0-4. Gavin Kenny the scorer of Kilbrittain's fourth point from a free.
