Junior B football West Cork semi-final replay v Newcestown
Kilbrittain met Newcestown in the semi-final replay in Clonakilty under lights. In a close affair, Kilbrittain took a while to settle as Newcestown started brightly and a pointed free from Cian Healy opened the scoring in the 7th minute. Kilbrittain had a sense of déjà vu two minutes later as a Josh O'Donovan penalty was well saved by the Newcestown goalkeeper Cathal Clarke similar to the drawn game. A point from Alan Shorten followed by Kilbrittains opening score from Pat O’Mahony were followed with a Newcestown goal in the eleventh minute from the impressive Sean Ryan. Josh O’Donovan sent over a free before another Healy free increased the lead for Newcestown. A good attack from Eamon Lyons finished with a pass the David Desmond for a fine Kilbrittain point with 9 minutes to the break. Noel Griffen quickly added a great point from the tightest of angles and Chris Hickey added a point following good approach play from Cian O’Leary to leave the halftime score reading 1-3 to 0-5. Kilbrittain dominated the third quarter scoring 2-2 to Newcestowns 0-2. Both Kilbrittains goals coming from the boot of Noel Griffen. The first within thirty seconds of the re-start with Griffens shot lobbing the advancing Clark. Griffen added a free immediately after and David Desmond floated over a beauty all within the first three minutes of the second half. Healy replied with two points for Newcestown, the first a fine effort from a free before former Clare senior Griffen billowed the net following a fine pass from Maurice Sexton. A Damien Desmond point was to be Kilbrittains last with nine minutes left. Newcestown came back into the game and started to reign back the lead with four unanswered points. Cathal Cadogan began the comeback with a fine score. Healy added two in quick succession. Newcestown were camped in the Kilbrittain half at this stage but the Kilbrittain defence held firm with Cashman, Sexton, Desmond and Lyons forcing Newcestown into errors with four wasted opurtunities that they would rue at the end. Kieran Kelly put his name on the scoreboard with time up but time ran out for Newcestown’s second string as Kilbrittain advanced to a meeting four days later against Bantry in the final.

Minor B football championship semi-final
Minor B football championship semi-final Kilbrittain V Ballinascarthy in Timoleague 7-9-2016
Kilbrittain 0-8 Ballinascarthy 3-7
Kilbrittain met Ballinascarthy on a very dull foggy evening in Timoleague. Kilbrittain started brightly and opened the scoring with a Philip Wall point in the fifth minute. A second point from Tomas Sheehan following by a lovely point from Ryan Lombard put Kilbrittain in a good position reaching the quarter hour as Ballinascarthy had yet to score despite some fine play from Sean Ryan and Padraig Cullinane in particular. It was Ryan who opened the scoring for Ballinascarthy right on 15 minutes with a fine point and almost in the next play a speculative high ball sent in by Cullinane deceived Kynan O’Hara in the Kilbrittain goal and ended up in the net. A fortuitous goal, but probably deserved for the amount of possession Ballinascarthy had enjoyed up to then. Kilbrittain responded with a point from Morgan Madden to level matters. Bertie Butler tapped over a free to regain the lead for Kilbrittain but it was Ballinascarthy who would finish the half ahead following a strong finish with points from Cullinanae and David McCarthy to leave the halftime score Ballinascarthy 1-3 Kilbrittain 0-5.
Ryan Lombard regained parity for Kilbrittain after five minutes, but Ballinascarthy started to take control around the middle with Sean Ryan and Sean Nyhan very strong on the ball and Cullinane dangerous every time he gained possession. Cullinane kicked a free in the eight minute to put Bal in front again and the next three minutes changed the complexion of the game. A fine solo run by David McCarthy with an off-load to Ben Murray saw the latter give O’Hara no chance in the Kilbrittain goal. Kilbrittain responded and a Sam Dewey shot on goal at the other end went narrowly wide. Bal responded again and another high ball at distance from the boot of Cullinane found its way to the Kilbrittain net to put Ballinascarthy firmly in the driving seat 3-4 to 0-6. Cullinane added a point and McCarthy added his second with fifteen minutes on the clock. Ballinascarthy were dominant now but a legitimate Kilbrittain claim for a penalty, when there appeared to be a foot block on Ryan Lomabard, went unpunished. Cullinane hit a fine point with seven minutes left which was to be their last score. As Ballinascarthy used up their subs bench, and darkness began to descend, Kilbrittain tried hard to salvage something from the game, Philip Wall blasted over the bar with two minutes on the clock and Bertie Butler added another point in injury time but it was too little too late. Kilbrittains Tadgh Kearney, Ryan Lombard, Tomas Sheehan, Bertie Butler were to the fore. Ballinascarthy were served well by Ronan McCarthy, Sean Nyhan, David McCarthy and especially Padriag Cullinane who was a thorn in Kilbrittain’s side throughout and finished with 2-4 to his name.
Final score Ballinascarthy 3-7 Kilbrittain 0-8.

Kilbrittain 4-16 Bandon 0-8
Kilbrittain Junior B footballers swept past Bandons second string in the first round of the west cork championship on Friday night last in sunny Ballinascarthy. On a perfect night for football, Kilbrittain got over this first hurdle relatively at ease. It took them a while to get into the game and settle though with a litany of early wides before they found their scoring boots. Bandon took the early initiative playing into the dressing rooms goal and were two points to one up after ten minutes. Rob Long and Colm Fogarty the scorers. Kilbrittain’s Josh O’Donovan was their early threat and despite the early shots off target, he would become a thorn in Bandons side as he looked dangerous every time he got the ball into his hands. Points from Declan Harrington, O’Donovan and Eamon Lyons made it 0-4 to 0-2 by the quarter hour. A point from Long for Bandon was quickly followed by two from Declan and Tomas Harrington before Declan opened flood gates with a stunning goal on twenty minutes. This score rocked Bandon and within two minutes Josh O’Donovan hit the base of the post and Tom Harrington had a goal bound shot saved and O’Donovan added his teams second goal. Bandons Ray Brennan did manage a fisted point during that period, but with Kilbrittain now taking control with Noel Griffen and Pat O’Mahony showing for every ball, they pulled away before the break. Declan Harrington pointed following a nice one-two with his brother Tomas and Griffen added a free with time almost up. Pat O’Mahony added a lovely point on the sound of the whistle to make it Kilbrittain 2-9 Bandon 0-4 at halftime.
Bandon got off to a good start to the second half with points from Fogarty and a free from Long before Ross Cashman kicked a fine point on six minutes. Tom Harrington added a point that was quickly followed by another Rob Long free. Timmy McCarthy kicked a fine point on the quarter hour. Bandon had changed their defencive set up introducing Luke Fleming and Jack Kelly at half time and it looked early on like they had strengthened the Bandon Backline. However similar to the first half, it took a while for Kilbrittain to settle but when they did they turned on the style. Two Pat O’Mahony points made it 2-13 to 0-8 by the twentieth minute. Kilbrittain substitute Darragh Hayes put the game well and truly beyond Bandon with a well taken goal with eight minutes left. This knocked the stuffing out of the town side as Kilbrittain finished strong with points from O’Donovan, two and Fintan O’Connell before Dylan Twohig got on the end of a fine move to palm into the net for Kilbrittain fourth goal.
