Kilbrittain secured local bragging rights with a fine win over Barryroe in round 2A or the intermediate hurling championship. Barryroe started with the strong wind and had a dream start with a goal in the fourth minute that followed a point for both sides, Pat O'Mahony with Kilbrittains score. Barryroe went in search of score early on but Kilbrittain looked sharp when Philip Wall and Declan Harrington got on the ball, each hitting a point in the first quarter. A Barryroe pointed sideline cut, was followed with points from Maurice Sexton and Chris Hickey to level the match 1-2 to 0-5 by the 15 minute mark. Barryroe's best period was the second quarter Five points in a row, four from frees, put them in the driving seat nearing halftime. Kilbrittain responded with points from Pat O'Mahony and Maurice Sexton before Barryroe hit another point before the break to leave it 1-8 to 0-7 at half time.
Kilbrittain upped the ante in the second half right from the first whistle. Sean Crowley was at his best, John Murphy and James Hurley put the shutters down in the back line. Kilbrittain swept forward looking for scores, Maurice Sexton hit over a point from a free, Declan Harrington hit two and a goal chance from Sexton blazed over the bar for the equalizing score during the first quarter. In the 45th minute Philip Wall set up Declan Harrington for Kilbrittain's first goal and the lead. Cian O'Leary and Tomas Sheehan were flying at midfield and up front Wall, Sexton, O'Mahony and Dec Harrington were all on form. Philip Wall and Maurice Sexton added points before Barryroe's first point of the half. With four minutes to the end, Kilbrittain put the game beyond doubt when a free from the Barryroe goalkeeper, from his own '45 yard line,didn't make the anticipated distance. Pat O'Mahony went highest to gather and from 100 yards, sent a lobbing ball back in over the retreating goalie. Cian O'Leary kept the full back busy and the ball dropped in behind everyone and all the way to the net. Goal of the year contender! Kilbrittain had the tails up at this stage and finished strong with points from Sexton, Wall and a debut championship score from Tomas Sheehan to leave the final score Kilbrittain 2-16 Barryroe 1-9.

A depleted Kilbrittain, (due to injuries and lads involved in the leaving cert) met last years finalists St Colums in Dunmanway and were always going to be up against it. St Colums started with the wind and dominated from the start. Conor O'Donovan opened the scoring with a point but St Colums hit the next seven without reply to make it 0-7 to a point by the end of the first quarter. Despite the score, Kilbrittain had some brave performances from Ian Hodge, Ger Whelton, Ivan burke, Nick O'Donovan and especially Denis Murphy in defence. Kilbrittain having weathered the storm somewhat, hit the next three points in a row from an Eamon Lyons free, Bertie Butler and Fintan O'Connell to reduce the gap to three. Then St Colums hit for their first goal in the 26th minute. The score knocked back the Kilbrittain confidence and three more points from St Colums made it 1-10 to 0-4 at halftime.
Kilbrittain turned with the breeze and needed a good start, but it was St colums who started the second half scoring with two points. darragh moore hit over a fine point but the game was over as a contest when St Colums hit their second goal. again despite the score, Kilbrittain began to get a foothold on the game. Bertie Butler finished well with three points, Alan Hayes and Tomas Sheehan were also conspicuous. Eamon Lyons added another point, while Kilbrittain were unlucky not to get in for a goal with Tomas Sheehan kicking wide across the face of the goal. Kilbrittain gave Ballinascarthy the shock of their lives in this preliminary round game at a sunny but windy Barryroe. Kilbrittain lead at halftime 1-10 to 0-9, but turning against the wind, the lead was never going to be enough. However, the first half display was a fantastic response from a Kilbrittain side who were brushed aside in recent years championships. Kilbrittain came out with all guns blazing, Alan Hayes was excellent in the half forward line, Tomas Sheehan was lording midfield, the halfback line were solid with Eamon Lyons and Conor O'Donovan showing well up front. The free taking of Ballinascarthy kept them in touch throughout a first half that show how good Kilbrittains second team could be on their day. Kilbrittain lead 0-8 to 0-6 by the 23rd minute following a superb three points in as many minutes from Alan Hayes. By the 26th, hayes was fouled bearing down on goal and Bertie Butler converted the resultant penalty much to the delight of the Kilbrittain support. Whatever was said in the 'Bal' dressing room at halftime, they were a different animal in the second half. Right from the throw in they pointed and this set the tone for the remainder of the game. Eight unanswered points turned Kilbrittains advantage on its head, as Kilbrittain struggled to cope against the strong wind. With eight minutes to go, the bal goal put the game beyond doubt. It finished in the end Kilbrittain 1-13 Ballinascarthy 1-23.

Castlemartyr edged ahead with a point in the 9th minute but Maurice Sexton levelled matters moments later. points from Chris Hickey and Sexton put Kilbrittain back in front. As the game neared the interval, Tomas Harrington who was dangerous up front throughout, was fouled and the resultant penalty was billowed to the net by Ross Cashman. This put Kilbrittain five ahead with halftime approaching. It got better for Kilbrittain as with a minute on the clock, a long delivery into the square was touched overhead by Cian O'Leary for Kilbrittain's second goal. Castlemartyr attacked in droves and really tested the Kilbrittain defence where Sean Crowley and newcomer Micheal O'Riordan were outstanding. A pointed free in added time, (6 minutes from where, nobody knows) reduced the gap to three points. Finally in the last action of the game a close in free to level the match for Castlemartyr was stopped by Robert Hayes and bundled to safety by a packed kilbrittain defence.
