Minor C hurling West Cork Final
Kilbrittain 3-11 St James 5-12
The minor C hurlers met St James in the 12-a-side west cork final in Timoleague. Kilbrittain started brightly with a point from Darragh Moore within the opening minute. Patrick O'mahony added two points almost immediately and Philip Wall went close before Brian Lombard scored St James first point in the seventh minute from a free and another a minute later. Kilbrittain goalie Ian Hodge made a fine save from a shot from Aaron Hayes who was impressive for St James throughout. A Ciaran Byrne point was followed by St James's third. St James then struck for the games first goal on the quarter hour. Philip Wall replied with a point for Kilbrittain. Then St James began to dominate and aided by a couple of dubious referee decisions, stretched the lead with three more points before Darragh Moore had his second for Kilbrittain a minute before the break. St James struck for their second goal in injury time when a long delivery was batted back into the path of Daniel O'Driscoll who buried the sliothar low to the net. The halftime score read Kilbrittain 0-6 St James 2-6.
The physically bigger St James thundered into the second half and added 1-3 before Kilbrittains Patrick O'Mahony pointed a free in the tenth minute. St James' response was two points, the first a great effort from Aaron Hayes.
At this point Kilbrittain were down 3-11 to 0-8 and there looked like no way back but inspired by Josh O'Donovan and Patrick O'Mahony they grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. In the 15th minute O'Mahony had a shot well saved by Peter Whelton in the St James goal. Then O'Donovan took on the defence and fired home Kilbrittains first goal moments later. It was end to end now as Dylan Twohig came to his sides rescue clearing off the line and the clearance up-field found David O'Neill who sent a rasper to the St James net in the next passage of play. From the puckout, a St James free went all the way to the net as the Kilbrittain goalie was blinded by the sun! Philip Wall responded with a point. St James added another point before David O'Neill fired over from close range. In a hectic final five minutes, St James got their fifth goal when Sean O'Reilly found himself unmarked and duly rattled the Kilbrittain net. Time ran out for Kilbrittain though as Philip Wall had a goalbound shot put behind for a fruitless '65.
A brave fight back from Kilbrittain in a tremendous second half saw St James deservedly claim the title.

Minor Premier 2 hurling championship semi-final
Carbery 4-13 Courcey Rovers 0-11
COIS FARRIAGE REPORTS
THE goalscoring abilty of Carbery proved to be the decisive difference between the sides in this well-contested premier 2 minor hurling county semi-final in the UCC grounds in the Mardyke.
Better balanced all round and showing a fierce hunger for the ball, the Carbery lads got on top early with two points from the talented Aaron Hayes and a third from impressive centre forward Eoin Lawton from a 65.
Courceys were giving as good as they got in the first quarter and points from Cathal Maguire, the classy Fergus Lordan and Tadhg O’Sullivan had the sides level at 0-3 each before Carbery, inspired by a dominant half-back line of McCarthy, Murray and O’Donovan, hit four points per Lawton (2), Jonathan Mulcahy and Damien O’Gorman, in reply to a single score from John McCarthy.
The first major arrived in the 22nd minute when the dangerous Eoin O’Brien lashed to the Courcey net but two subsequent goal chances were squandered by Carbery. A Lawton point stretched the lead to seven but Courceys finished the half well with points from Maguire and Lordan, free.
It was 1-8 to 0-6 in Carbery’s favour at half time but it seemed they might rue the mixed goal chances when Courceys came out with all guns blazing on the restart.
The half-back line of Mulcahy, Ryan and Dormon gained a firm grip but some bad wides and great pressure from the Carbery players meant they were limited to two points from Lordan, from a 65 and a free, in reply to an opening score from Lawton.
With goalkeeper Conor Madden, full back Liam O’Brien and corner back Joe O’Mahony refusing to budge an inch, Courceys never looked like getting the goals they needed.
Midfielders Mulcahy and O’Donovan were now beginning to win the midfield battle for Carbery, who had points from O’Gorman and Lawton, free.
The second goal of the game arrived at a crucial time when Aaron Hayes, causing all kinds of problems at corner forward, raced 40 metres to rattle the net.
There was no holding Carbery, three clear goals in front, after that and showing tremendous work rate, they struck for the third goal, after Lawton and Jerry O’Neill had swapped points, when Mulcahy raced through from midfield to beat the goalkeeper.
Courceys were now chasing a lost cause but never dropped heads and Maguire and Lordan swept over two points. Any notions of a late comeback were truly scuttled when Mulcahy again split the defence to score his second goal, Carbery’s fourth.
It finished 4-13 to 0-11, with the stronger and hungrier Carbery lads advancing to the county final where they will meet the winners of Ballinhassig v Aughabullogue, in Páirc Uí Rinn on Monday, September 15th.

Premier Intermediate hurling relegation play-off v Watergrasshill
Watergrasshill 1-22 Kilbrittain 1-16
When these sides met in the 2013 quarter final, Watergrasshill won with a five point margin. The result this time was six but the reward was greater. Watergrasshill remain in the premier grade for 2015 while Kilbrittain return to the lower level which they won only four years ago. This pulsating relegation play-off in Riverstown on Saturday evening showed two teams determined to do their best to avoid the dreaded drop. Shane O'Regan proved the hero for the Hill. He opened the scoring with a free in the second minute, he scored 1-11 over the hour. Chris Hickey followed with two fine points to put Kilbrittain ahead after five minutes. Two points from O'Regan, the second a free, added to with a point from Kieran Coakley put the Hill back in front. Ross Cashman put his name on the scoresheet in the tenth minute with a free and the next passage of play saw the same player rattle the Watergrasshill net from close range following a good delivery from David Desmond. The game was end to end at this stage, Cashman extended the lead with a free, O'Regan responded with a similar score and another from play within sixty seconds, Cashman replied with a pointed '65. Kilbrittain were struggling to find scores elsewhere and only for some good defending by John Murphy, Damien Desmond and Cal McCarthy, could have been down more by halftime. John Halbert and Paddy O'Regan were playing well for the Hill. Conner Moloney and Alan Hayes added two fine points before the break but it was Watergrasshill who finished the half the stronger with points from Anthony Cronin, Denis O'Farrell, O'Regan, a free, and two from Sean O'Callaghan in injury time, to put two points between the sides at halftime, Kilbrittain 1-7 Watergrasshill 0-12. The second half started in a whirlwind of excitement as the Hill scored immedialtey from the throw in with points from Cronin and Paudie Cahill, within the first minute. Pat O'Mahony responded with a super point following good support play by Cashman and David Desmond added another seconds later. Shane O'Regan and Kieran Coakley, from distance, kept Watergrasshill in front with two fine scores before O'Mahony added his second on six minutes. Vincent O'Brien, Cian O'Leary and Declan Harrington were showing up well at this stage but the Kilbrittain defence got caught out in the 38th minute, as some slack marking allowed Eoin Barry to feed Shane O'Regan, and he fired home a bullet to push the hill into a 1-16 to 1-10 lead. O'Regan stretched the lead with a '65 and a fine point from play as the game entered the final quarter. A Cashman free gave Kilbrittain hope, and swung the momentum to the westerners but again found it difficult to find the scores. As the intensity of the contest grew a Cashman shot on goal didn't find the target, a pointed free by the same player and a peach of a score by David Desmond closed the gap. With five minutes on the clock, Cashman pointed another free to narrow the gap to four, but then Watergrasshill grabbed the game by the collar and four points in as many minutes pushed them over the line. O'Reagn with a free, Paudie Cahill, Jason Foley and Darragh O'Callaghan all found the range. Tomas Harrington went close with an effort on goal, and knocked over a point in response as the game ticked into injury time. Watergrasshill battened down the hatches and with Paddy O'Regan commanding the defence held out for the win. An injury time '65 produced a point from James Hurley for Kilbrittain but it was too little too late as Kilbrittain were destined for relegation. A bitterly disappointing result for Kilbrittain who will have to re-group and reflect on a poor campaign overall not helped by the loss of Jamie Wall to very unfortunate circumstances early in the championship.Final Score Watergrasshill 1-22 Kilbrittain 1-16teams: Watergrasshill: A Foley: P Cronin, M Barry, E O’Reilly; A Cronin 0-2, N O’Riordan, P O’Regan; K O’Neill, S O’Callaghan 0-2, W Connolly, S O’Regan 1-11 ( 0-6fs, 1 '65), E Barry; D O’Farrell 0-1, J Halbert, J Foley 0-1, Subs used: K Coakley 0-2, P Cahill 0-2, J Foley, D O’Callaghan 0-1, C Fenton. His goal came in the ninth minute after he gathered on the twenty metre line and managed to run through the Kilbrittain defence to blast past Llyod McSweeney from close range. This goal, added to his earlier two points from frees put Clonakilty back in front after KIlbrittain had taken the early lead courtesy of points from Declan Harrington (2) Chris Hickey and Josh O'Donovan. Cian O'Donovan and David Lowney stretched the lead by the quarter hour and Harrington was on target for Kilbrittain with a fine point a minute later. Clons response was immediate with two points from O'Mahony and Sean McEvoy. Ryan Crowley hit a fine point for Kilbrittain quickly followed by a similar score from Lyons in a pulsating final few minutes. There was still time for O'Mahony to respond with a free and another point from Cormican with time up. Cork set up a Munster intermediate hurling final with Tipperary after claiming victory over Clare in a six-goal thriller at Semple Stadium on Sunday afternoon. In the curtain-raiser to the senior encounter between the sides, Cork built on their opening round win over Waterford to stave off the challenge of a Clare team who were making their 2014 competitive bow. Cork got off to an explosive start. Michael O’Sullivan and David Drake both found the net inside the opening two minutes to put them into a 2-1 to 0-1 lead. Matters got even better for Cork when O’Sullivan fired home his second goal in the 7th minute. Despite Bobby Duggan pulling a goal back for Clare, Cork incredibly managed to strike their fourth early goal through Drake in the 12th minute as they went 4-4 to 1-5 clear. Sharpshooters Duggan for Clare and Peter O’Brien traded points in the second quarter with Cork going in at the break in possession of a 4-7 to 1-8 lead.Cork continued to maintain that advantage in the early stages of the second-half before Clare fought back and received a boost when Cathal Malone grabbed a goal in the 42nd minute. That left Clare 4-12 to 2-14 adrift and on a couple of occasions during the finale, Duggan converted frees that left them only three points adrift of Cork. The Rebels were reduced to 14 men late on when Michael O’Sullivan received a second yellow card but points by O’Brien and substitutes Ronan Crowley and Kevin Hallissey helped them run out three-point winners.Cork now advance to a final meeting with Tipperary on Friday June 27th at a Cork venue.

Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship rd1
Kilbrittain 1-8 Newcestown 2-14
Kilbrittain opened the scoring in this first round encounter with old rivals Newcestown in rain soaked Bandon. This was the only time Kilbrittain were in front in a game that was strangely lacking the bite that has been expected between these clubs when they meet in championship hurling from under-age right up to adult grades in recent years. Alan Hayes was the scorer in the opening minute. It would be 13 minutes before they would score again and during this time Newcestown began to show dominance in most quarters. Their opening score was a goal from Fionn Keane in the fifth minute. Two points in the 9th and 11th minutes stretched their lead before Jamie Wall pointed a free on 14 minutes. David Desmond and Trevor Horgan swapped points just before Robert Hayes brought off a fine save from a goal-bound shot with six minutes to the break. Kilbrittain were not to score again before the break. As conditions worsened with a constant downpour, Newcestown were adapting better and while adding three more points, it could have been six if they were more accurate. The score at half time read Kilbrittain 0-3 Newcestown 1-6. Newcestown opened the scoring in the second half, but a more determined Kilbrittain were battling hard and points from Ross Cashman and Wall followed an Alan Hayes shot on goal that was well saved by the Newcestown goalie. Newcestown had a point in the 10th minute and Kilbrittain were fortunate that a goal-bound shot came back off the post minutes later. A let off for Kilbrittain, and with Wall pointing a free immediately, it looked like that may have sparked a revival. it was not to be as Newcestown pointed twice in quick succession before James Deasy put over a fine long range effort with 11 minutes to go. A Newcestown free was followed by their second major again from Keane with 6 minutes remaining. Kilbrittain kept at it and were rewarded with a goal from Alan Hayes with three minutes left. Newcestown responded from the puck out and with three more points as the game entered injury time, it was curtains for Kilbrittain. Maurice Sexton did have the last say with a fine point in the 32nd minute but it was too little too late as the final score read Kilbrittain 1-8 Newcestown 2-14. Kilbrittain now meet Valley Rovers in the 2nd round, a repeat of last years 4th round meeting.
